A Brazilian Wax is a more thorough then a bikini wax. All hair is removed on the front, underneath and even buttocks area. (I will only remove as much as you want though).
HOW IS IT DONE?
You come in a private room, undress from the waist done and lay down on a table. I come in the room, apply talcum powder to the area to help the hair lift from the skin easier. I then apply warm wax in the direction of the hair growth, place a pellon strip of cloth, rub, pull the skin and taut, and then pull in the opposite direction. Voila! Hair is Gone!
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
I am quick, since I've been doing it so long. I average 15 minutes start to finish. If you come regularly, which is every 4 weeks, it takes 10-12 minutes. If it's been months since you've done any sort of maintenance, plan on the full 15 minutes. Which by any other standard is very fast!
HOW MUCH PAIN IS INVOLVED?
It is uncomfortable, but the pain doesn't resonate. Just say to yourself, it's only 15 minutes and of that 15 minutes maybe 5 of it is the most painful, other then that, it's not a big deal.
WAYS TO LESSEN THE PAIN?
Take 2 Tylenol before coming in, not Advil, as that might cause bruising. Come in when you are NOT menstruating as that adds to the pain. Remember to keep breathing. I will do a quick pat several times after I waxed the area and that to lessens the pain.
WHAT TYPE OF WAX DO I USE?
I use soft wax that is antibacterial. It is honey based and for all skin types. I've used many different waxes and prefer the soft wax. I have a previous post titled Hard Wax vs. Soft Wax for more information about it.
SHOULD I TRIM BEFORE MY VISIT?
No, unless it has been months with no trimming at all, then I do appreciate a little trimming. If you trim too short though I cannot wax you, so if you're in doubt, DON'T TRIM. I need 1/4" of hair length.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF WAXING?
Many!! Waxing allows your hair to grow in much slower and when regrowth does occur, it is soft hair, not prickly as with shaving. Also, less of it grows in because of the hair growth cycles. There are 3 cycles of hair growth, so while getting waxed, you'll always have at least 1/3 less hair then if you shave.
HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?
I recommend for my clients to come every 4 weeks for best results. You will be "clean" for 2 weeks and some hair growth will occur in the last 2 weeks. By coming every 4 weeks, you get the best cycle of hair growth stages and have the best results. You still have great results if you have to wait a bit longer, but with that also comes a bit more pain due to an increase in hair amount.
WHAT PREVENTS MY SKIN FROM BREAKING OUT?
Exfoliation is necessary to prevent your skin from breaking out. A break out may occur when the hair is in its growth cycle but due to a build up of dead skin cells, it cannot penetrate through and will therefore curl inside your skin causing a red, irritated bump that closely resembles a pimple. Use a sugar scrub or a loofa daily or as often as possible.
WHAT IF I BREAK OUT?
Break outs may occur, but not usually with the products I use. A big reason I use the wax and calming spray are because it limits break outs. But, if it does happen, I recommend applying Oxy10 or some other zit cream with Benzoyl Peroxide as the main ingredient. It quickly dries the area out and kills any infection. Applying toothpaste, Benadryl Cream or Neosporin are also helpful if you don't have a zit cream handy.
